1. All of the Israelites gathered together at Shiloh where they set up the Meeting Tent. The land was now under their control.
|
1. And the whole H3605 congregation H5712 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 assembled together H6950 at Shiloh H7887 , and set up H7931 H853 the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 there H8033 . And the land H776 was subdued H3533 before H6440 them.

2. But there were still seven tribes of Israel that had not yet received their land.
|
2. And there remained H3498 among the children H1121 of Israel H3478 seven H7651 tribes H7626 , which H834 had not H3808 yet received H2505 H853 their inheritance H5159 .
|
|
3. So Joshua said to the Israelites: "Why do you wait so long to take your land? The Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given this land to you.
|
3. And Joshua H3091 said H559 unto H413 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , How long H5704 H575 are ye H859 slack H7503 to go H935 to possess H3423 H853 the land H776 , which H834 the LORD H3068 God H430 of your fathers H1 hath given H5414 you?

4. Choose three men from each tribe, and I will send them out to study the land. They will describe in writing the land their tribe wants as its share, and then they will come back to me.
|
4. Give H3051 out from among you three H7969 men H376 for each tribe H7626 : and I will send H7971 them , and they shall rise H6965 , and go H1980 through the land H776 , and describe H3789 it according H6310 to the inheritance H5159 of them ; and they shall come H935 again to H413 me.

5. They will divide the land into seven parts. The people of Judah will keep their land in the south, and the people of Joseph will keep their land in the north.
|
5. And they shall divide H2505 it into seven H7651 parts H2506 : Judah H3063 shall abide H5975 in H5921 their coast H1366 on the south H4480 H5045 , and the house H1004 of Joseph H3130 shall abide H5975 in H5921 their coasts H1366 on the north H4480 H6828 .

6. You should describe the seven parts of land in writing and bring what you have written to me. Then I will throw lots in the presence of the Lord our God.
|
6. Ye H859 shall therefore describe H3789 H853 the land H776 into seven H7651 parts H2506 , and bring H935 the description hither H2008 to H413 me , that I may cast H3384 lots H1486 for you here H6311 before H6440 the LORD H3068 our God H430 .

7. But the Levites do not get any part of these lands, because they are priests, and their work is to serve the Lord. Gad, Reuben, and East Manasseh have received the land promised to them, which is east of the Jordan River. Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave it to them."

7. But H3588 the Levites H3881 have no H369 part H2506 among H7130 you; for H3588 the priesthood H3550 of the LORD H3068 is their inheritance H5159 : and Gad H1410 , and Reuben H7205 , and half H2677 the tribe H7626 of Manasseh H4519 , have received H3947 their inheritance H5159 beyond H4480 H5676 Jordan H3383 on the east H4217 , which H834 Moses H4872 the servant H5650 of the LORD H3068 gave H5414 them.

8. So the men who were chosen to map the land started out. Joshua told them, "Go and study the land and describe it in writing. Then come back to me, and I will throw lots in the presence of the Lord here in Shiloh."

8. And the men H376 arose H6965 , and went away H1980 : and Joshua H3091 charged H6680 H853 them that went H1980 to describe H3789 H853 the land H776 , saying H559 , Go H1980 and walk H1980 through the land H776 , and describe H3789 it , and come again H7725 to H413 me , that I may here H6311 cast H7993 lots H1486 for you before H6440 the LORD H3068 in Shiloh H7887 .

9. So the men left and went into the land. They described in a scroll each town in the seven parts of the land. Then they came back to Joshua, who was still at the camp at Shiloh.

9. And the men H376 went H1980 and passed through H5674 the land H776 , and described H3789 it by cities H5892 into seven H7651 parts H2506 in H5921 a book H5612 , and came H935 again to H413 Joshua H3091 to H413 the host H4264 at Shiloh H7887 .

10. There Joshua threw lots in the presence of the Lord to choose the lands that should be given to each tribe.
|
10. And Joshua H3091 cast H7993 lots H1486 for them in Shiloh H7887 before H6440 the LORD H3068 : and there H8033 Joshua H3091 divided H2505 H853 the land H776 unto the children H1121 of Israel H3478 according to their divisions H4256 .

11. The first part of the land was given to the tribe of Benjamin. Each family group received some land between the land of Judah and the land of Joseph. This is the land chosen for Benjamin:

11. And the lot H1486 of the tribe H4294 of the children H1121 of Benjamin H1144 came up H5927 according to their families H4940 : and the coast H1366 of their lot H1486 came forth H3318 between H996 the children H1121 of Judah H3063 and the children H1121 of Joseph H3130 .

12. The northern border started at the Jordan River and went along the northern edge of Jericho, and then it went west into the mountains. That boundary continued until it was just east of Beth Aven.
|
12. And their border H1366 on the north H6828 side H6285 was H1961 from H4480 Jordan H3383 ; and the border H1366 went up H5927 to H413 the side H3802 of Jericho H3405 on the north side H4480 H6828 , and went up H5927 through the mountains H2022 westward H3220 ; and the goings out H8444 thereof were H1961 at the wilderness H4057 of Beth H1007 -aven.

13. From there it went south to Luz (also called Bethel) and then down to Ataroth Addar, which is on the hill south of Lower Beth Horon.
|
13. And the border H1366 went over H5674 from thence H4480 H8033 toward Luz H3870 , to H413 the side H3802 of Luz H3870 , which H1931 is Bethel H1008 , southward H5045 ; and the border H1366 descended H3381 to Ataroth H5853 -adar, near H5921 the hill H2022 that H834 lieth on the south side H4480 H5045 of the nether H8481 Beth H1032 -horon.

14. At the hill to the south of Beth Horon, the border turned and went south near the western side of the hill. It went to Kiriath Baal (also called Kiriath Jearim), a town where people of Judah lived. This was the western border.

14. And the border H1366 was drawn H8388 thence , and compassed H5437 the corner H6285 of the sea H3220 southward H5045 , from H4480 the hill H2022 that H834 lieth before H592 H6440 Beth H1032 -horon southward H5045 ; and the goings out H8444 thereof were H1961 at H413 Kirjath H7154 -baal, which H1931 is Kirjath H7157 -jearim , a city H5892 of the children H1121 of Judah H3063 : this H2063 was the west H3220 quarter H6285 .

15. The southern border started near Kiriath Jearim and went west to the waters of Nephtoah.
|
15. And the south H5045 quarter H6285 was from the end H4480 H7097 of Kirjath H7157 -jearim , and the border H1366 went out H3318 on the west H3220 , and went out H3318 to H413 the well H4599 of waters H4325 of Nephtoah H5318 .

16. Then it went down to the bottom of the hill, which was near the Valley of Ben Hinnom, on the north side of the Valley of Rephaim. The border continued down the Hinnom Valley just south of the Jebusite city to En Rogel.

16. And the border H1366 came down H3381 to H413 the end H7097 of the mountain H2022 that H834 lieth before H5921 H6440 the valley H1516 of the son H1121 of Hinnom H2011 , and which H834 is in the valley H6010 of the giants H7497 on the north H6828 , and descended H3381 to the valley H1516 of Hinnom H2011 , to H413 the side H3802 of Jebusi H2983 on the south H5045 , and descended H3381 to En H5883 -rogel,

17. There it turned north and went to En Shemesh. It continued to Geliloth near the Adummim Pass. Then it went down to the great Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.

17. And was drawn H8388 from the north H4480 H6828 , and went forth H3318 to En H5885 -shemesh , and went forth H3318 toward H413 Geliloth H1553 , which H834 is over against H5227 the going up H4608 of Adummim H131 , and descended H3381 to the stone H68 of Bohan H932 the son H1121 of Reuben H7205 ,

18. The border continued to the northern part of Beth Arabah and went down into the Jordan Valley.
|
18. And passed H5674 along toward H413 the side H3802 over against H4136 Arabah H6160 northward H6828 , and went down H3381 unto Arabah H6160 :

19. From there it went to the northern part of Beth Hoglah and ended at the north shore of the Dead Sea, where the Jordan River flows into the sea. This was the southern border.
|
19. And the border H1366 passed along H5674 to H413 the side H3802 of Beth H1031 -hoglah northward H6828 : and the outgoings H8444 of the border H1366 were H1961 at H413 the north H6828 bay H3956 of the salt H4417 sea H3220 at H413 the south H5045 end H7097 of Jordan H3383 : this H2088 was the south H5045 coast H1366 .

20. The Jordan River was the border on the eastern side. So this was the land given to the family groups of Benjamin with the borders on all sides.
|
20. And Jordan H3383 was the border H1379 of it on the east H6924 side H6285 . This H2063 was the inheritance H5159 of the children H1121 of Benjamin H1144 , by the coasts H1367 thereof round about H5439 , according to their families H4940 .

|
21. The family groups of Benjamin received these cities: Jericho, Beth Hoglah, Emek Keziz,
|
21. Now the cities H5892 of the tribe H4294 of the children H1121 of Benjamin H1144 according to their families H4940 were H1961 Jericho H3405 , and Beth H1031 -hoglah , and the valley H6010 of Keziz H7104 ,

22. Beth Arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel,
|
22. And Beth H1026 -arabah , and Zemaraim H6787 , and Bethel H1008 ,
|
|
23. Avvim, Parah, Ophrah,
|
23. And Avim H5761 , and Parah H6511 , and Ophrah H6084 ,
|
|
24. Kephar Ammoni, Ophni, and Geba. There were twelve towns and all their villages.
|
24. And Chephar H3726 -haammonai , and Ophni H6078 , and Gaba H1387 ; twelve H8147 H6240 cities H5892 with their villages H2691 :

25. The tribe of Benjamin also received Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth,
|
25. Gibeon H1391 , and Ramah H7414 , and Beeroth H881 ,
|
|
26. Mizpah, Kephirah, Mozah,
|
26. And Mizpeh H4708 , and Chephirah H3716 , and Mozah H4681 ,
|
|
27. Rekem, Irpeel, Taralah,
|
27. And Rekem H7552 , and Irpeel H3416 , and Taralah H8634 ,
|
|
28. Zelah, Haeleph, the Jebusite city (Jerusalem), Gibeah, and Kiriath. There were fourteen towns and their villages. All these areas are the lands the family groups of Benjamin were given.

28. And Zelah H6762 , Eleph H507 , and Jebusi H2983 , which H1931 is Jerusalem H3389 , Gibeath H1394 , and Kirjath H7157 ; fourteen H702 H6240 cities H5892 with their villages H2691 . This H2063 is the inheritance H5159 of the children H1121 of Benjamin H1144 according to their families H4940 .
