Deuteronomy 13:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 "A prophet or someone who explains dreams might come to you and tell you that they will show you a sign or a miracle.
2 And the sign or miracle they told you about might come true. Then they might ask you to follow other gods (gods you don't know) and say to you, 'Let's serve these gods!'
3 Don't listen to them, because the Lord your God is testing you. He wants to know if you love him with all your heart and all your soul.
4 You must follow the Lord your God. Respect him. Obey his commands and do what he tells you. Serve the Lord your God, and never leave him.
5 Also, you must kill that prophet or person who explains dreams, because they told you to turn against the Lord your God. And it was the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, where you were slaves. They tried to pull you away from the life he commanded you to live, so you must kill them to remove this evil from your people.
6 "Someone close to you might secretly persuade you to worship other gods. It might be your own brother, your son, your daughter, the wife you love, or your closest friend. They might say, 'Let's go and serve other gods.' (These are gods that you and your ancestors never knew.
7 They are the gods of the people who live in the other lands around you, some near and some far away.)
8 You must not agree with them. Don't listen to them or feel sorry for them. Don't let them go free or protect them.
9 No, you must kill them with stones. You be the first one to pick up stones and throw at them. Then everyone must throw stones to kill them, because they tried to pull you away from the Lord your God. And it was the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, where you were slaves.

11 Then all the Israelites will hear about it and be afraid. And they will not do those evil things any more.
12 "The Lord your God has given you cities to live in. Sometimes you might hear some bad news about one of these cities. You might hear that
13 some troublemakers from your own nation are persuading the people of their city to do bad things. They might say to the people of their city, 'Let's go and serve other gods.' (These gods would be gods that you never knew before.)
14 If you hear this kind of news, you must do all you can to learn if it is true. If you learn that it is true, if you prove that such a terrible thing really did happen,
15 then you must kill all the people of that city and their animals too. You must destroy that city completely.
16 You must gather up everything of value and take it to the center of the city. Burn the whole city and everything in it as a burnt offering to the Lord your God. You must turn that city into an empty pile of rocks forever, and that city must never be rebuilt.
17 Everything in that city must be given to God to be destroyed. So you must not keep any of the things for yourselves. If you follow this command, the Lord will stop being so angry with you. He will be kind to you. He will feel sorry for you. He will let your nation grow larger, like he promised your ancestors.
18 This will happen if you listen to the Lord your God�if you obey all his commands that I give you today. You must do what the Lord your God says is right.

2 And the sign H226 or the wonder H4159 come to pass, H935 whereof H834 he spoke H1696 unto H413 thee, saying, H559 Let us go H1980 after H310 other H312 gods, H430 which H834 thou hast not H3808 known, H3045 and let us serve H5647 them;
3 Thou shalt not H3808 hearken H8085 unto H413 the words H1697 of that H1931 prophet, H5030 or H176 that H1931 dreamer H2492 of dreams: H2472 for H3588 the LORD H3068 your God H430 proveth H5254 you , to know H3045 whether H3426 ye love H157 H853 the LORD H3068 your God H430 with all H3605 your heart H3824 and with all H3605 your soul. 4 Ye shall walk H1980 after H310 the LORD H3068 your God, H430 and fear H3372 him , and keep H8104 his commandments, H4687 and obey H8085 his voice, H6963 and ye shall serve H5647 him , and cleave H1692 unto him.
5 And that H1931 prophet, H5030 or H176 that H1931 dreamer H2492 of dreams, H2472 shall be put to death; H4191 because H3588 he hath spoken H1696 to turn you away H5627 from H5921 the LORD H3068 your God, H430 which brought you out H3318 H853 of the land H4480 H776 of Egypt, H4714 and redeemed H6299 you out of the house H4480 H1004 of bondage, H5650 to thrust H5080 thee out of H4480 the way H1870 which H834 the LORD H3068 thy God H430 commanded H6680 thee to walk H1980 in . 6 If H3588 thy brother, H251 the son H121 of thy mother, H517 or H176 thy son, H1121 or H176 thy daughter, H1323 or H176 the wife H802 of thy bosom, H2436 or H176 thy friend, H7453 which H834 is as thine own soul, H5315 entice H5496 thee secretly, H5643 saying, H559 Let us go H1980 and serve H5647 other H312 gods, H430 which H834 thou hast not H3808 known, H3045 thou, H859 nor thy fathers; H1
7 Namely , of the gods H4480 H430 of the people H5971 which H834 are round about H5439 you, nigh H7138 unto H413 thee, or H176 far off H7350 from H4480 thee , from the one end H4480 H7097 of the earth H776 even unto H5704 the other end H7097 of the earth; H776
8 Thou shalt not H3808 consent H14 unto him, nor H3808 hearken H8085 unto H413 him; neither H3808 shall thine eye H5869 pity H2347 H5921 him, neither H3808 shalt thou spare, H2550 neither H3808 shalt thou conceal H3680 H5921 him:
9 But H3588 thou shalt surely kill H2026 H2026 him ; thine hand H3027 shall be H1961 first H7223 upon him to put him to death, H4191 and afterwards H314 the hand H3027 of all H3605 the people. H5971

13 Certain men, H376 the children H1121 of Belial, H1100 are gone out H3318 from among H4480 H7130 you , and have withdrawn H5080 H853 the inhabitants H3427 of their city, H5892 saying, H559 Let us go H1980 and serve H5647 other H312 gods, H430 which H834 ye have not H3808 known; H3045
14 Then shalt thou inquire, H1875 and make search, H2713 and ask H7592 diligently; H3190 and, behold, H2009 if it be truth, H571 and the thing H1697 certain, H3559 that such H2063 abomination H8441 is wrought H6213 among H7130 you;
15 Thou shalt surely smite H5221 H5221 H853 the inhabitants H3427 of that H1931 city H5892 with the edge H6310 of the sword, H2719 destroying it utterly H2763 H853 , and all H3605 that H834 is therein , and the cattle H929 thereof , with the edge H6310 of the sword. H2719

18 When H3588 thou shalt hearken H8085 to the voice H6963 of the LORD H3068 thy God, H430 to keep H8104 H853 all H3605 his commandments H4687 which H834 I H595 command H6680 thee this day, H3117 to do H6213 that which is right H3477 in the eyes H5869 of the LORD H3068 thy God. H430
