Nehemiah 12:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 These are the priests and Levites who came back to the land of Judah. They came back with Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua. This is a list of their names: Seraiah, Jeremiah, Ezra,
2 Amariah, Malluch, Hattush,
3 Shecaniah, Rehum, Meremoth,
4 Iddo, Ginnethon, Abijah,
5 Mijamin, Maadiah, Bilgah,
6 Shemaiah, Joiarib, Jedaiah,
7 Sallu, Amok, Hilkiah, and Jedaiah. These men were the leaders of the priests and their relatives in the days of Jeshua.
8 The Levites were Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and also Mattaniah. These men, with Mattaniah's relatives, were in charge of the songs of praise to God.
9 Bakbukiah and Unni were the relatives of those Levites. These two men stood across from them in the services.
10 Jeshua was the father of Joiakim. Joiakim was the father of Eliashib. Eliashib was the father of Joiada.
11 Joiada was the father of Jonathan, and Jonathan was the father of Jaddua.
12 In the days of Joiakim, these men were the leaders of the families of priests: The leader of Seraiah's family was Meraiah. The leader of Jeremiah's family was Hananiah.
13 The leader of Ezra's family was Meshullam. The leader of Amariah's family was Jehohanan.
14 The leader of Malluch's family was Jonathan. The leader of Shecaniah's family was Joseph.
15 The leader of Harim's family was Adna. The leader of Meremoth's family was Helkai.
16 The leader of Iddo's family was Zechariah. The leader of Ginnethon's family was Meshullam.
17 The leader of Abijah's family was Zicri. The leader of Miniamin and Maadiah's families was Piltai.
18 The leader of Bilgah's family was Shammua. The leader of Shemaiah's family was Jehonathan.
19 The leader of Joiarib's family was Mattenai. The leader of Jedaiah's family was Uzzi.
20 The leader of Sallu's family was Kallai. The leader of Amok's family was Eber.
21 The leader of Hilkiah's family was Hashabiah. The leader of Jedaiah's family was Nethanel.
22 The names of the leaders of the families of the Levites and the priests in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, Johanan, and Jaddua were written down during the rule of Darius the Persian king.
23 The family leaders among the descendants of the Levites and up to the time of Johanan son of Eliashib were written in the history book.
24 And these were the leaders of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, and their brothers. Their brothers stood across from them to sing praise and honor to God. One group answered the other group. That is what was commanded by David the man of God.
25 The gatekeepers who guarded the storerooms next to the gates were Mattaniah, Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon, and Akkub.
26 They served in the days of Joiakim. Joiakim was the son of Jeshua, who was the son of Jozadak. And the gatekeepers also served in the days of Nehemiah the governor and in the days of Ezra the priest and teacher.
27 The people dedicated the wall of Jerusalem. They brought all the Levites to Jerusalem. The Levites came from the towns they lived in. They came to Jerusalem to celebrate the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem. They came to sing songs of praise and thanks to God. They played their cymbals, harps, and lyres.
28 And all the singers also came to Jerusalem. They came from the towns all around Jerusalem. They came from the town of Netophah, from Beth Gilgal, Geba, and Azmaveth. The singers had built small towns for themselves in the area around Jerusalem.

30 So the priests and Levites made themselves pure in a ceremony. Then they also made the people, the gates, and the wall of Jerusalem pure in a ceremony.
31 I told the leaders of Judah to go up and stand on top of the wall. I also chose two large singing groups to give thanks to God. One group was to start going up on top of the wall on the right side, toward the Ash Pile Gate.
32 Hoshaiah and half of the leaders of Judah followed the singers.
33 Also following them were Azariah, Ezra, Meshullam,
34 Judah, Benjamin, Shemaiah, and Jeremiah.
35 And some of the priests with trumpets also followed them up to the wall. Zechariah also followed them. (Zechariah was the son of Jonathan, who was the son of Shemaiah, who was the son of Mattaniah, who was the son of Micaiah, who was the son of Zaccur, who was the son of Asaph.)
36 There were also Asaph's brothers, who were Shemaiah, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah, and Hanani. They had the musical instruments that David, the man of God, had made. Ezra the teacher led the group of people who were there to dedicate the wall.
37 They went to the Fountain Gate and walked up the stairs all the way to the City of David. They were on top of the city wall. They walked over the house of David and went toward the Water Gate.
38 The second group of singers started out in the other direction, to the left. I followed them as they went up to the top of the wall. Half of the people also followed them. They went past the Tower of Ovens to the Broad Wall.
39 Then they went over these gates: the Gate of Ephraim, the Old Gate, and the Fish Gate. And they went over the Tower of Hananel and the Tower of the Hundred. They went as far as the Sheep Gate and stopped at the Guard Gate.
40 Then the two singing groups went to their places in God's Temple. And I stood in my place. And half the officials stood in their places in the Temple.
41 Then these priests stood in their places: Eliakim, Maaseiah, Mijamin, Micaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah. These priests had their trumpets with them.
42 Then these priests stood in their places in the Temple: Maaseiah, Shemaiah, Eleazar, Uzzi, Jehohanan, Malkijah, Elam, and Ezer. Then two singing groups began singing with Jezrahiah leading them.
43 So on that special day, the priests offered many sacrifices. Everyone was very happy because God had made them happy. Even the women and children were excited and happy. People far away could hear the happy sounds coming from Jerusalem.
44 Men were chosen to be in charge of the storerooms on that day. People brought the first part of the harvest and a tenth of their crops. So the men in charge put these things in the storerooms. The Jewish people were very happy about the priests and Levites on duty. So they brought many things to be put in the storerooms.
45 The priests and Levites did their work for their God. They did the ceremonies that made people pure, and the singers and gatekeepers did their part. They did everything that David and Solomon had commanded.
46 (Long ago, in the days of David, Asaph had been the director. And he had many songs of praise and thanks to God.)
47 So in the days of Zerubbabel and of Nehemiah, all the Israelites gave every day to support the singers and gatekeepers. The people also set aside the money for the other Levites. And the Levites set aside the money for the descendants of Aaron.

9 Also Bakbukiah H1229 and Unni, H6042 their brethren, H251 were over against H5048 them in the watches. H4931

25 Mattaniah H4983 , and Bakbukiah, H1229 Obadiah, H5662 Meshullam, H4918 Talmon, H2929 Akkub, H6126 were porters H7778 keeping H8104 the ward H4929 at the thresholds H624 of the gates. H8179
26 These H428 were in the days H3117 of Joiakim H3113 the son H1121 of Jeshua, H3442 the son H1121 of Jozadak, H3136 and in the days H3117 of Nehemiah H5166 the governor, H6346 and of Ezra H5830 the priest, H3548 the scribe. H5608
27 And at the dedication H2598 of the wall H2346 of Jerusalem H3389 they sought H1245 H853 the Levites H3881 out of all H4480 H3605 their places, H4725 to bring H935 them to Jerusalem, H3389 to keep H6213 the dedication H2598 with gladness, H8057 both with thanksgivings, H8426 and with singing, H7892 with cymbals, H4700 psalteries, H5035 and with harps. 28 And the sons H1121 of the singers H7891 gathered themselves together, H622 both out of H4480 the plain country H3603 round about H5439 Jerusalem, H3389 and from H4480 the villages H2691 of Netophathi; H5200
29 Also from the house H4480 H1004 of Gilgal, H1537 and out of the fields H4480 H7704 of Geba H1387 and Azmaveth: H5820 for H3588 the singers H7891 had built H1129 them villages H2691 round about H5439 Jerusalem. H3389
30 And the priests H3548 and the Levites H3881 purified themselves, H2891 and purified H2891 H853 the people, H5971 and the gates, H8179 and the wall. H2346
31 Then I brought up H5927 H853 the princes H8269 of Judah H3063 upon H4480 H5921 the wall, H2346 and appointed H5975 two H8147 great H1419 companies of them that gave thanks, H8426 whereof one H259 went H1980 on the right hand H3225 upon H4480 H5921 the wall H2346 toward the dung H830 gate: H8179

36 And his brethren, H251 Shemaiah, H8098 and Azarael, H5832 Milalai, H4450 Gilalai, H1562 Maai, H4597 Nethaneel, H5417 and Judah, H3063 Hanani, H2607 with the musical H7892 instruments H3627 of David H1732 the man H376 of God, H430 and Ezra H5830 the scribe H5608 before H6440 them.
37 And at H5921 the fountain H5869 gate, H8179 which was over against H5048 them , they went up H5927 by H5921 the stairs H4609 of the city H5892 of David, H1732 at the going up H4608 of the wall, H2346 above H4480 H5921 the house H1004 of David, H1732 even unto H5704 the water H4325 gate H8179 eastward. 38 And the other H8145 company of them that gave thanks H8426 went H1980 over against H4136 them , and I H589 after H310 them , and the half H2677 of the people H5971 upon H4480 H5921 the wall, H2346 from beyond H4480 H5921 the tower H4026 of the furnaces H8574 even unto H5704 the broad H7342 wall; H2346
39 And from above H4480 H5921 the gate H8179 of Ephraim, H669 and above H5921 the old H3465 gate, H8179 and above H5921 the fish H1709 gate, H8179 and the tower H4026 of Hananeel, H2606 and the tower H4026 of Meah, H3968 even unto H5704 the sheep H6629 gate: H8179 and they stood still H5975 in the prison H4307 gate. H8179
40 So stood H5975 the two H8147 companies of them that gave thanks H8426 in the house H1004 of God, H430 and I, H589 and the half H2677 of the rulers H5461 with H5973 me:
41 And the priests; H3548 Eliakim, H471 Maaseiah, H4641 Miniamin, H4509 Michaiah, H4320 Elioenai, H454 Zechariah, H2148 and Hananiah, H2608 with trumpets; H2689
42 And Maaseiah, H4641 and Shemaiah, H8098 and Eleazar, H499 and Uzzi, H5813 and Jehohanan, H3076 and Malchijah, H4441 and Elam, H5867 and Ezer. H5829 And the singers H7891 sang loud, H8085 with Jezrahiah H3156 their overseer. H6496
43 Also that H1931 day H3117 they offered H2076 great H1419 sacrifices, H2077 and rejoiced: H8055 for H3588 God H430 had made them rejoice H8055 with great H1419 joy: H8057 the wives H802 also H1571 and the children H3206 rejoiced: H8055 so that the joy H8057 of Jerusalem H3389 was heard H8085 even afar off H4480 H7350 .
44 And at that H1931 time H3117 were some H376 appointed H6485 over H5921 the chambers H5393 for the treasures, H214 for the offerings, H8641 for the firstfruits, H7225 and for the tithes, H4643 to gather H3664 into them out of the fields H7704 of the cities H5892 the portions H4521 of the law H8451 for the priests H3548 and Levites: H3881 for H3588 Judah H3063 rejoiced H8057 for H5921 the priests H3548 and for H5921 the Levites H3881 that waited. H5975
45 And both the singers H7891 and the porters H7778 kept H8104 the ward H4931 of their God, H430 and the ward H4931 of the purification, H2893 according to the commandment H4687 of David, H1732 and of Solomon H8010 his son. H1121
46 For H3588 in the days H3117 of David H1732 and Asaph H623 of old H4480 H6924 there were chief H7218 of the singers, H7891 and songs H7892 of praise H8416 and thanksgiving H3034 unto God. H430
